bob mason recollections
"I graduated from high school in 1944 and went into the United States Marine Corps in August of '44. I was on Okinawa, saw action on Okinawa, and then went to China for about a year. One of the things we did was disarm the Japanese or accept their surrender. And then the Chinese Nationalists and the Communists were fighting at that time, and so one of the things we did was guard the railroads. [The Communists] kidnapped some people from one of the places where I was stationed. They kidnapped these guys who were [working] in the meat locker, I think, and they kidnapped them from there. Two or three Marine Corps guys. I don't remember exactly what happened there. I remember we went on a long march looking for them, but I don't remember what the details were about them." - Bob Mason (July, 2013)
